Southern Calif Sierra Club visits the Ranch!

A wonderful group of outdoor adventurists...... most of them from southern calif and a couple from the bay area, arrived on molokai early last week. they spent a few days investigating Molokai, then came out to the ranch for a couple of nights. It was a wonderful, relaxed visit with plenty of walking about - up to the falls in Halawa Valley one day, holoholo at the ranch the next... several of us voted that not enough time at the ranch!! Hopefully they will all be back again soon, with their families in tow, sharing with them the magic of Molokai!

Hawaii School Garden Hui visits the Ranch!

The Ranch was very glad to welcome the 25 members of the Hawaii Farm to School and School Garden Hui to Molokai this past week. They came together representing all of the islands for a strategic planning session.

They invited Anakala Philipo Solatario of Halawa Valley to start their meetings by sharing protocol (see image above).

They shared their vision with us:

Hokule'a returns to the islands after sailing to 23 countries!!

The picture above was just at sunset on June 15 on the west end of Molokai where the 5 canoes traveling together came to rest after visiting Kalapapa for a couple of days.  The Hokule'a arrived back to Oahu on Saturday, June 17 after 3 years of sailing around the world, visiting 23 countries. This was a major, historic event.

The Hokule'a and it's sister canoe, the Hikianalia, and the other 3 canoes began to arrive just after 7 am, with the Hokule'a arriving at the Ala Wai boat harbor at 9:45 am to a crowd estimated over 50,000!

Maui Kaunoa Seniors dance at the ranch!

The 4th group of senior adventurers from Maui's Kaunoa program were guests at the ranch this week. They came for a 'taste' of Molokai.... and ranch chef, Adam Snyder, did not dissapoint! From pupus upon arrival all the way to a 'Cinco de Mayo' departure lunch.... he rocked their taste buds with the ranch's amazingly fresh produce, organic beef and wild venison - all prepared with his special touch. The food experience at the ranch is one of the reasons they continue to return.

Ukulele classes play at the grove cottage

Several classes from three or four of the hawaiian islands all traveled to Molokai this past weekend to visit where many of the songs they play were originated. Unfortunately, due to a family emergency, their leader and kumu, Walter Kawaiaea, was not able to attend but his lieutenants filled in nicely for him. Many of the students were staying at the ranch for the 4 day / 3 night event.

Ranch cooks rock the house with their tasty field to table creations!!

Our recent lodge guests, workshops from all over the US, are raving about the meals they are experiencing during their stay. Starting with the many organic and biodynamic fresh vegetables and fruit, unique and tasting recipes that incorporate many cultural favorites, to hearty fresh beef and venison! Their appreciation and compliments have the entire kitchen staff on high.

With a little luck, and a lot of hard work, we will have our ranch recipes cook book available in time for christmas gift giving..... thanks for all of your encouragement!
